Meditation Institute Rooftop with Apple and Ghost of Mingus
Standing on a naked san francisco rooftop five flights up the world
unfolds, the crazy blue patchwork of night foils the logic of dreams, the
half-cold wind startles the lazy evening sleep into a small section of
awareness-which is me. a siren whistles on a flute played by a blind
man and races to a disaster the city is secretly arranging for its reluctant
benefit, from the window of a brick house on jones street comes an assault off-words, then screams, then silence ... small point oflight purrs
mechanically cutting the wind and wounding the seeming plan of tranquility like a clockwork fire beetle, the moon is weeping. i am met with
the billion possibilities of the city, and the willow trees below are nodding, the needle of the pyramid is shining and the twin spire of a still
white cathedral are singing softly. the windows in the steeple are blue
like the color of the sky just above the bay's horizon. my mind wanderstwo minutes at this and I am laughing at the sculptures surrounding
me-they are noble attempts at something-tomorrow a green apple will
be the sun in the sky, held in my hand as i prepare to take a bite like the
hidden face of magritte.
