When Lilacs Bloomed
From dreams I wake to wend at dawn,
Descrying nature's renaissance
In burgeoning trees that stage the
Symphonies of wrens and robins,
While I, in cosmic covenant,
Remember lilacs blooming.
Noon, I bathe in petals' perfume
And behold the artist's palette:
Blossoms' collages of color
Splashed brilliantly on earth's canvas.
This redolence of sepal's jewels
Recalls the lilacs blooming.
At day's demise I sift through sounds
Of children's shouted hosannas:
Their celebration to carry
Me beyond night's cruel concerns
To times of earnest innocence
And days of lilacs blooming.
